Hi! My name is Ruslan and I'm from Russia, Moscow.

I'm going to visit your college this fall (oct-nov) as a member of students exchange programme. I don't know much yet about your college, guys, but I hope it'll be a great experience!!!

I have to declare my major this year, and I'm leaning toward English. However, I noticed for Fall 2006 that almost all of the classes are in the afternoon. Is this usual for English? The problem I have now is that they almost all conflict with my lab schedule since I'm also pre-med. Also, I don't really like afternoon classes that much anyway.

in fact, i don't even operate my journal anymore. anyway, i haven't officially registered my major yet, and i recently decided that i want to major in anthropology. i've only taken one anthro class (humankind evolving). point is, i'm wondering how it is. this coming semester i'll be a junior with all my core credits taken care of so i can fit the remaining 9 classes in, i just need some opinions of classes and the general experience. i don't want to take all these classes and not know what i'm getting into when it comes to final theses and such.

Here's a much simplified Webtree diagram and where you should place your classes:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

diagram by Emmanuel José '06

Some More Information:

A) Only the TOPS of Tree #1, #2, and #3 have to be different. The bottom two levels of Tree #1 can be identical to the bottom two levels of Tree #2 and Tree #3.

Theoretically, you're just reusing/rearranging the same group of 6-9 classes.

B) Your Alternates can just be a different section (timeslot) of the ideal class you want.

C) Classes that are VERTICAl to each other CANNOT conflict.

D) Classes that are HORIZONTAL to each other CAN conflict.

E) Put the class you most want (or the hardest go get into) at the top of Tree #1.
(I recommend you put your W writing course here, the competition for them is fiercer in the spring semester for freshmen)

F) You DO NOT register for PE classes through Webtree. You register for PE classes once you arrive through the PE department website.

-- I don't have knowledge about all the classes at Davidson, but if you have any questions on which classes are harder to get into than others, I'll tell you what I know.

-- I've probably forgotten to mention something else, but please ask questions if you have any.

I'm a junior at a public high school here in NC and I've been looking at college criteria and I find Davidson's admissions process intriguing...

Class Rank is only "considered", while Rigor of Secondary School Record, Recommendations, Volunteer Work, and Personal Qualities are way up there.

okay, so based on that my chances aren't as bad as I thought they were...

620 on Verbal (I am expecting 650 after I take it again in May)
700 on Math
670 on Writing (also expected to go up)

I will have taken 8 AP classes by the time I leave high school, gone to Spanish 6, Latin 3, 5 sciences, 6 maths, etc. etc.

I've been very dedicated to both math tutoring and this thrift shop my church set up in an impoverished area of the city.

I can get recommendations.

Problem is that I'm barely making top 10%...I have about a 4.2, 3.3 unweighted (though I believe this could have been higher if we were on a ten-point scale like most school systems).

So my question is, do you think Collegeboard is right? Do I still have an okay chance even though my GPA isn't what it could and probably should be?

Hello, I just got accepted into Davidson and I'm planning to come down and visit in about a week and a half. But I have some questions.
How are the students there? Are they madd chill?
What about the teachers? Are they nice or total assholes?
Is their madd stuff to do down there (I'm from NY)? One of my biggest fears is that since Im used to easily going into the city and always being able to find something to do that at Davidson I might get a little bored. Is that the case?
Once again thanks if you could answer my questions.

Rimers Of Eldritch [Mar. 25th, 2006|05:30 pm]

I noticed that very few people use this community anymore, but I will take advantage of it this one time:

Come see Rimers of Eldritch, this weekend (Wed-Sun) in the Duke Family Performance Hall.

This is probably one of the coolest plays ever produced at Davidson (and I'm totally not biased just because I am in it). Everyone involved has worked really hard, so we really want to see a packed house every night.

So please come. Twice! It will be that amazing, I promise.

Hey folks,

Those of you who know me might know that my brother, Mike Trainor, is a stand up comic.

He's had some big success recently with a column posted in Maxim magazine this month, monthly appearances on Sirius Satellite Radio's: Four Quota's (he is also a producer of the show), a television appearance on a brand new satellite comedy channel (to be aired sometime in the near future!), and a recent booking at Caroline's On Broadway, the most popular comedy venue in New York City.

Needless to say, I am one proud little sister.

Just recently Mike and some of his comic buddies, including Steve Hoffstetter (that comic who has over 100,000 friends on thefacebook.com, has performed at hundreds of colleges, and is a very cool dude who I've met personally), have begun planning what will become "The Thinking Man's Comedy Tour." They plan to start it off in Vermont in early April and are booking more gigs as we speak.

Most importantly, Mike has recently expressed his interest in bringing the tour here, to the oh so wonderful and prestigious Davidson College!

My query for you, my fellow Davidsonians, is this:

How many of you would be interested in attending a fun evening of comedy with some very funny, up and coming guys (some of whom have appeared on Comedy Central!), and supporting my big brother? Additionally, how do I go about suggesting this to the Union Board?

If you want to hear more about Mike or check out a routine (there's a very funny video!) check out www.miketrainor.com.

Please comment and let me know if you'd be interested!

Thanks, y'all.

Hi Davidson folks! I'm selling some of my sister's really beautiful furniture on eBay (don't worry, she knows!), and it's pick-up from Charlotte, NC, only (i.e. I won't ship), so I thought I'd alert some local folks about the sale.

On the list are the following items:
Rich, dark wood (with a subtle Asian influence -- very chic):
- dining table/chairs set
- entertainment center/armoire
- coffee table
- end table

-Rich, sophisticated chocolate Italian leather couch
-Beautiful pine wine rack/kitchen island
-Tall cherry wood dresser

To see all the listings, see my auction page here.

Thanks guys!
